If you have a business, I’m almost positive you have heard the saying; don’t work harder, work smarter. This saying truly is honest! You can seriously work your butt off trying to market your website or business, but that doesn’t always mean it’s the smartest thing in the world. Sometimes it takes a person to step in and let you see the error of your ways. One of the things that a lot of people do is post on thousands of ads across the board. Frankly, I don’t think this is necessary.

I think that if you just choose a few select sites that offer things like blogging or free classifieds you can cut your time in half and still GET the sales that you desire. The thing about classified ads is that you want to make sure that the ones you are posting to are FREE. They can have fee options, but for the most part they should be completely free to post free ads. If you want the premium options, great.

Go for it! If not, that’s fine as well! Obviously premium or featured ads are going to give you more bang for your buck, but it’s not absolutely necessary! The point to this is that you can post free ads to several different places and or sections of the ads site. This is going to allow you to cheapen your money on marketing, but still allow you to receive the profits you need to live! I can honestly say that my ads stay up longer on these other sites than they do at some of the more “well-known” free classifieds sites online – ones in which I promise not to name, but I’m sure you can guess! At the other sites, I get flagged all the time for valid ads! How annoying.

I spend all that time thinking of what to say and I post it and its gone 5 minutes later. Enough with that! I’m willing to try anything new that can get me what I want – and these other free classifieds are exactly it! Now you can post to LESS sites with LESS ads because you know they are going to stick for longer. This is going to allow you to focus on more important things like talking to your customers, doing follow up emails, and or other business “chores”. Heck, even with posting to less sites and getting more business I have been able to have the time and money to hire on new employees! Time is of the essence. Don’t waste more than you have to!

The picture on the left shows results from an eyetracking study on Google search results from Enquiro. The authors tested 50 people each performing 5 different search tasks. Areas colored red are where people focused most of their attention. The colors change to indicate decreasing areas of visual focus of the participants.

Comparing PPC (Pay Per Click) and SEO Strategies:

While PPC costs money (anywhere from $0.05 to $10.00) and your competitors can knock you off by paying more, with SEO you only spending your time. (As far as PPC goes, until you know what you are doing, I advise you to stay away from it. Advertising with Google Adwords is an art.) Once your site has established high rankings in the engines, its going to be difficult for your competition to take over your position. They have to learn the same SEO principles and implement it more effectively then you did. Besides, you will be getting much more traffic than through PPC.

When it comes time for you or your business to start marketing online, one of the things you will start to learn is that there are free ways AND paid ways to promote your business. Most of us choose the free ones, but if you feel the absolute need to do the paid ones as well I have an option for you that WILL get the job done, but won’t cost you an arm and a leg. For me, not all free classifieds are created equal. There are some big names out there that I just can’t get anywhere with.

In fact, I find some of these “big name” sites really annoying! Too much to post an ad, getting flagged all the time for valid ads, and too much saturation! So when it comes to posting MY free ads, I make sure that I really get to know the site. Is it really free? Is there an optional fee {option|selection}? How many ads can I post? Is the site legit? And so on and so forth! Well here are just a few of the sites I use when it comes to free ads:

Free Ad Lists: This site has actually been around for a while now, and it’s still running pretty strong. The owner of the site makes sure that he keeps up with ongoing trends, new posts added, fees, the overall design of the site and the content placed ON the site. They do watch over spam ads, so if you are a spammer you do not want to come here!

This site has a few fee options available to you such as premium or featured ads, posting in all the cities in your state and posting to all the cuties in the country (US). The fees themselves are not bad at all. It’s nothing like some of those “other” sites you find online for ads. You can ultimately choose what your ad looks like with a html web form builder, you can add pictures if you would like and a whole other slew of really great options to take advantage of!

Beat Your Price: beatyourprice is an Internet company based in California. The beatyourprice website hosts free user-generated classified advertisements for communities around the world. The company was founded in May 2004. As of May 2009 is available in 56 countries. Free classifieds service shows rapid growth as it expands to all communities in United States.

Jihoy: Jihoy is a free classifieds social networking site, in which users may post their ads, make friends, build groups, organize events, and a lot more. Of course when you look on Google you will find about 5 billion other sites. Check them out, see who offers what, who is the most popular, and who has the best options. Personally, I think the design of a site has a lot to do with how they run a site. I know that sounds a little funny, but I would rather join a site that is user-friendly and easy to understand and nicer to look at, than a blank page with a few words.

For me, a nice design means they keep up with their site and don’t just see it as a place for a bunch of ads, but a real business. You also seem to find “better” customers on these sites that look more professional as well so be sure to look out for that!

When we use fear of loss in a sales pitch we are trying to evoke those same emotions in our prospects, but not with those exact words.

We best create this feeling by describing an impending, life changing event like the end of a promotion, or the running out of material or a deadline if you will. Or better yet, the complication of their lives in some way that will cause them a loss of time or money.

Sales people tend to use phrases like:

“I only have two left!” “Don’t miss out.” “Take advantage of this promotion before it ends!”

Chances are they have a stockroom full of that item, but they are using fear of loss to get the prospects to buy now instead of putting it off till later. It doesn’t matter how many they still have. If your prospect BELIEVES that you are almost out and that the moment you walk away, your amazing product just walked away with you FOREVER!!

Home shopping channels use fear of loss by displaying a count down of the items remaining on the screen. Isn’t it funny how it’s 4:00 AM but those items appear to be flying out the door? Come on, really?? Soo many people are ordering in middle of the night? Many time’s you hear things like:

“The first 50 callers will receive a free gift!”

Again, your impulse is building through the fear that you will lose the gift by not calling immediately. The reality is that ALL orders come with the free gift. YES!!! It’s true. But regardless if you order immediately or crawl into bed and wake up in the afternoon to order, you’ll still get that free gift.

On an internet sales page there are many ways to portray Fear Of Loss. Some marketers even use it in the pre-headline with something like “DO NOT HIT YOUR BACK BUTTON UNTIL YOU READ THIS PAGE! You will never see this page again.” That statement uses fear of loss AND urgency to captivate the visitor and make them read the entire page.
